The project viz., All India Co-ordinated Research Prolect on Agricultural Drainage under actual no watershed basis is being implemented in "Kavil Thekkumpuram Padasekharam" a part of Kuttanad situated in Ambalapuzha Village and Taluk of Alappuzha District. The scheme has come in to effect from 1-12-1981 and was sanctioned for the 6th, 7th and 8th Plan period.

The main objectives and thrust areas of research are :

• to comprehend the effect of surface and subsur-face drainage (SSD) system on the movement of soil liquids,
• to study the pattern of hydrological cycle occur-ring in the watershed areas and its importance and influence on the drainage,
• to develop a feasible technology for the lay out of sub-surface drainage system suitable for peak and muck soils,
• to develop drainage pattern requirement for dif-ferent crops,
• to evaluate the feasibility of using the return flow from drainage for irrigation in relation to water quality rating and
• to evaluate the socio-economic benefits acquired from the drainage projects.
