Seminar on Modern Reading Habits was held at the College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara as part of Reading Week Celebrations. Seminar inaugurated by Dr. Praveenlal Kuttichira, Dean, Kerala University of Health Sciences. According to him, Reading is essential to achieve direct interaction between communicator and learner. Prof. Lelitha Lenin Writer and former HoD, Dept.of Library and Information Science, University of Kerala in her theme paper on Modern Reading Habits also reiterated the importance of reading of all kinds, including e-reading. It is up to each individual to choose comfortable reading tool such as laptop, e-reader, mobile, etc. Dr. P.V. Balachandran, Director of Extension, KAU presided over the function. Dr. T.R. Gopalakrishnan, Director of Research give away prizes to the winners of the All Kerala Essay Writing Competition held for university students on reading. C.T. Sathian, E.U. Rajan, Avinash Regi Thomas and Gleena Mary falicitated. Dr. C.T. Abraham, Associate Dean welcomed and Dr. A.T. Francis, Head, Library proposed vote of thanks.

S. Anu, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CoV), Mannuthy won first prize with cash award and V.V. Jithin of College of Horticulture and V.P. Rasim (CoV) (bracketed) won second prizes and cash awards.

Reading Week Programmes 2012 in the College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University, has been inaugurated by Dr. C.T. Abraham, Associate Dean by opened the world famous book, “Horti Malabari” for reading. University Librarian K.P. Sathian delivered Key Note Address. Dr. P. Ahamed, Dr. P.K. Sushama and P.V. Ambika felicitated. Dr. A.T. Francis welcomed the gathering and V.S. Swapna offered vote of thanks.

All Kerala Essay Writing Competition will be held on 20^th at 3pm in the College of Horticulture.

20-06-2012	All Kerala Essay Writing Competition for students of Agriculture, Veterinary and Fisheries Universities in Kerala Participants:- Students in Agriculture, Veterinary and Fisheries Universities (KAU, KVASU, KUFOS) in Kerala are eligible to participate in the essay writing competition. Registration to the Competition is free.
21-06-2012	Seminar on “Modern Trends in Reading” and Prize Distribution Participants:- Students, teachers, other staff members, farmers and public interested in reading and library use can participate in the seminar. Registration to the Seminar is free. Seminar Topics:- Library Web tools, E-Learning and Teaching, Teaching role of Librarians in Internet era, Digital Document Delivery etc.
25-06-2012	Seminar on “Library and Web tools for E-Learning and Teaching” in association with the Kerala Library Association, Trivandrum Participants: Qualified Library Education Teachers/Professionals Seminar Topics:- Library Web tools, E-Learning and Teaching, Teaching role of Librarians in Internet Era, Digital Document Delivery etc.

All Kerala Essay Writing Competition
Date & Time	20-06-2012, 2.30pm – 4.30pm
Venue	College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara, Thrissur.
Participants	Students in Agriculture, Veterinary and Fisheries Universities (KAU, KVASU, KUFOS) in Kerala are eligible to participate in the essay writing competition. Students should produce Photo Identity Card or Authorisation Letter from the College/University authorities to participate. Registration to the Competition is free. Colleges are encouraged to intimate the tentative number of students participating in the competition.
Topic	Topics for the Essay Competition will be related to “Library”, “Reading”, “Information”, “Knowledge” etc. The exact topic will be announced at the start of the competition.
Prize	Prizes carry Cash Award and Citation. 1^st Prize: Rs. 2,000/- (one no.), 2^nd Prize: Rs. 1,000/- (two nos.) and 3^rd Prize: Rs. 500/- (three nos.). Toppers from each participating college who do not receive in any of the above three prizes will be given Special Consolation Prizes. Essays will be evaluated by a panel of experts. The decision of the judges will be final.
Prize Distribution	Prizes and certificates will be distributed in a public function along with the Seminar on “Modern Trends in Reading”, organised in the College of Horticulture on 21-06-2012 during 2.30pm - 5 pm.
