Training on cashew apple processing
The Cashew Research Station, Madakkathara under Kerala Agricultural University is organizing a series of one- day trainings on “Cashew apple processing” at Madakkathara and major cashew growing regions of Kerala during February- March 2010. Training will be given on the production of various value added products such as syrup, squash, Ready – To- serve (RTS) drink, jam, pickle, candy, vinegar and confectioneries, with emphasis on hands-on-training. Extraction of juice, preparation of pulp, offseason storage of juice and pulp, removal of tannin, requirements for starting small scale units and licencing will also be covered in the training. The training is intended for various stakeholders such as members of Kudumbasree and Self Help Groups, farmers, entrepreneurs, women, unemployed youth and farmers’ groups. Those who are interested to participate in the training may submit applications to the Professor & Head, Cashew Research Station, Madakkathara- 680 651, Thrissur (Phone: 0487–2370339; e-mail: crsmadakkathara@kau.in) at the earliest, preferably on or before 30/1/10. If SHGs and Kudembasree Units are interested to organize trainings for groups of people in their locality, where cashew is a predominant crop, they may indicate that in their application.
