Sri. K.R.Viswambharan, Vice-chancellor, Kerala Agricultural
University has been awarded the 18th Dewang Mehta Award for outstanding
contributions to education. The prestigious award is in recognition of
leadership, development and innovation shown by him in the education
sector.
Under the leadership of Sri. K.R.Viswambharan, the Kerala Agricultural
University has won national award for academic performance among
Agricultural Universities in India for the last three years in a row. The
innovative academic programmes initiated by him has attracted worldwide
attention. The concepts of Food security Army and collaboration with notable
universities in India and abroad for pioneering new generation and relevant
courses in climate change adaptation and solid waste management have been
appreciated widely. A former IAS officer, he has also been instrumental
in taking agricultural science to the doorstep of farmers.
The award is named after the late Dewang Mehta, former high profile chief of National
Association of Software and Service Companies. Every year the award is given to
significant contributions in the field of education, information and
management.
The award was presented on 24th November 2010 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai.
