The main objective of the centre is to breed and maintain an elite herd of crossbred cattle. The centre is also engaged in conducting basic and applied research on cross-bred calves. It also supplies fodder slips of improved varieties to the farmers.

• The farm provides facilities for conducting research for M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. students in cross bred milch cows and calves. Breeding programmes of heifers/ cows using semen from high pedigree bull is being done here.

• In the centre, 23 indigenous (Vechur) cattle are also maintained.
