The
strategy for need based application of plant protection chemicals has been
stressed. IPM has thus, helped to reduce the use of plant protection chemicals
considerably. The consumption of pesticides that was at a high level during
the pre-review period is around 337 MT (solid) and 5154 l (liquid) has been
gradually reduced to 243 MT (solid) and 2926 l (liquid) during the period
from 1990-1995.
