Patent Awareness Workshop
In order to protect our rich bio- diversity and immense local varieties of crops, they are to be classified noting their specific characteristics and all the details have to be put on the internet to own our claim, said Dr. K. Gopakumar, the former Deputy Director General, ICAR. He was inaugurating the one day awareness workshop on Patent Awareness at Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara, Thrissur. The workshop was jointly organised by the Technology Information Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC) and the Kerala Agri-cultural University.

Dr. A. I. Jose, Director of Extension, urged the necessity to protect our rich bio-diversity from being pirated by other countries.

Dr.S.Bala Ravi and Dr.K.Sureshkumar, spoke on the New Plant Variety Protection and Farmers Rights Act and on IPR issues.

Mr. Madhusudha, Convenor of Patent and Designs, Chennai spoke on the patenting system in India and Dr. C.R.Elsy, on intellectual property protection of biological materials.

Dr.R.Vikraman Nair, Director of Research, Dr.K.Pushkaran and Dr.G.S.L.H.V Prasada Rao spoke on the occasion.
