KAU Pavilion - A cynosure of all eyes in the Thrissur Pooram exhibition
The Kerala Agricultural University Pavilion at the Thrissur Pooram Exhibition
Grounds attracted the attention of thousands of visitors this year also. The
pavilion was inaugurated by Shri Joseph Mathew, winner of the Best Farmer Award
instituted by the Vegetable Fruits Promotion Council of Kerala (VFPCK) on April
14. Dr. K.V. Peter, Vice Chancellor, Dr. A.I.Jose, Director of Extension and
other officers of the University graced the function.

This year the pavilion was set up to highlight the importance of watershed programme, to educate the farmers on taking up watershed programmes to improve the yield of their crops. Medicinal plants, organic farming, new potential of floriculture and new trends in vegetable production etc. were the major exhibits in the pavilion. A number of crops varieties recently released by the University, soft drinks and syrups developed from cashew apple, products of tender coconut and cocoa attracted most of the visitors. Hybrid layers Athulya, Gramalekshmy and Gramasree developed by the University, foreign bred Red Cornish and ornamental breed Silky were prominent among the exhibits. Ornamental fishes and the collection of 25 varieties of fodder grass were depicted for the information of farmers.
