Dr. Nandakumar Award to Aravindan Vallachira
Dr. Aravindan Vallachira (Dr.CM Aravindakshan) Assoc. Prof., Dept. of Pharmacology & Toxicology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy has been selected for Dr. B. Nandakumar Memorial Award for the year 2002 instituted by the Veterinary Teachers' Association. This award is given to a veterinarian for excellence in field of art and literature. He is a member of the Chalachitra Academy and the KAU General Council.

Dr. J. Abraham retires
Dr. J. Abraham, Director, Centre of Excellence in Meat Technology and Director of Students Welfare of KAU retired from KAU on May 7, 2003. A nationally renowned meat technologist, Dr. Abraham joined the services of KAU in 1978. He underwent postgraduate studies at the Royal Veterinary University, Copenhagen, Denmark with FAO Fellowship. He secured Gold medal and first rank in Ph.D. in Meat Technology. His contributions for the development of Meat Technology Unit of Kerala Agricultural University as the best of its kind in India are recognised and appreciated. As a mark of recognition, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research sanctioned the Centre of Excellence in Meat Technology under the NATP project with the financial assistance from World Bank. The project is implemented by him, which resulted in providing best infrastructure facilities for research and human resource development.

He is instrumental in presenting several research projects and bringing huge funds from various agencies including Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India, World Bank, and Govt. of Kerala. His project on Carcass Utilisation was approved and funded by Dept. of Animal Husbandry, Govt. of India.

He had served as the Principal of International Training Centre on Meat Technology, established by United Nations, in the Republic of Botswana.

O. P. Kaler assumes charge as Registrar
Shri Om Prakash Kaler, IFS has assumed charge as Registrar of the Kerala Agricultural University on May 22. He was officiating as Conservator of Forests, Bio-diversity Cell, Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr. P. A. Wahid appointed as the Secretary of the Science Council
Dr. P. A. Wahid, Director (Academic & P.G. Studies), Kerala Agricultural University, has been appointed as the first Member Secretary of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. He had earlier held positions of Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Associate Dean, College of Agriculture, Padannakad. A well-known scientist in agriculture particularly in research employing radioisotopes with tree and other perennial plantation crops and spices, Dr. Wahid has received the T.K.V. foundation award for the best agricultural research scientist in Kerala. He is also a Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
