Ensure transfer of technology - Gouri Amma  

Smt. K. R. Gouri Amma, Minister for Agriculture appealed to the scientists to help the farmers by rendering all technical advice for making the cultivation profitable. She said, the scientists should ensure that the technologies developed by them are reaching the farmers. The minister stressed the need for good liaison between the Agricultural Department and the University. Smt. Gouri Amma was inaugurating the State Level Agricultural Workshop-cum-Exhibition organized by the Regional Agricultural Research Station and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ambalavayal during October 19-20, 2002. The workshop was organized to formulate programmes for the integrated development of agriculture in Wayanad with special emphasis on production, value addition, agro based industries and marketing of spices.

 

Dr. K.V. Peter, Vice-Chancellor K.A.U. in his introductory remarks highlighted the scope of anthurium, vanilla, cardamom and cutflower industry in the spices' District of Wayanad and stressed the need for preparing a master plan for the development of spices. He also announced that the station could further strengthen the research on cool season vegetables with the establishment of a centre at Ambalavayal under the national network on cool season vegetables.

Shri K. Mureleedharan, MP stated that the government is planning for market intervention to alleviate the sufferings of the farmers. Shri N.D. Appachan, M.L.A. presided over the function.
