Projects invited by DBT

The DBT is having 2 major programmes, Rural development and Programmes for SC/ST upliftment. The department has been receiving large number of projects in these areas from large number of NGOs and some rural institutes.

The Director, DBT has informed that the DBT would be happy to consider supporting a mega-size / multi-disciplinary project under rural development to benefit large number of rural population through biotech-based demonstration and training activities. For this, a proposal can be formulated by a group / team involving half a dozen activities, which are of novel origin and can fall under the activities of DBT. The focus of the programme should be to help the rural people in additional revenue and employment generation apart from their routine agrifarming activities. Activities viz. tissue culture planting material through nursery for cash crops, horticulture, sericulture, plant protection including biofertilizers and biopesticides, animal husbandry, apiary, organic farming etc. should be the part of the programme. The marketing network and cooperative approach should be included in the programme. The activities in the form of integrated manner and its implementation to benefit large number of people without landholding and landholders should help in benefiting more than 1000 people directly and through awareness programme 10 times than the direct beneficiaries. The programme can be taken up in the form of a biotechnology complex for rural areas.

A well focused programme in the format submitted may be examined by DBT after assuring the competence of the investigators and based on their past association in various externally implemented projects and also availability of infrastructure viz. lab, building, training facility and equipments etc.
