Pepper

• An NPK schedule of 50:50:150 g/plant/year for pepper vines is recommended after extensive trials. Apply fertilizers in a circle of radius 30 cm around the vine in the case of plants trailed on Erythrina or teak pole (dead standard)

• Pepper plants if irrigated with 100 l of water once in 8-10 days during summer months (December-May), give about 50 per cent more yield than unirrigated ones.

• Neem cake is good for pepper. Apply one kg lime and two kg neemcake/ vine/ year as pre-monsoon dose. The application of neemcake should be four weeks after lime application.

• A technique for rapid multiplication of pepper was perfected .A technique for growing pepper as a bush plant was also developed.

• For control of pollu beetle of pepper, Endosulfan, Dimethoate, Quinalphos or Monocrotophos all at 0.05% concentration is recommended at the time of spike emergence.

• Waiting period of pesticides suggested: Dimethoate - 5 days, Quinalphos - 12 days, Mancozeb - 220 days

Cardamom

• Control measures of 'Azhukal' disease of cardamom have been worked out and included in the package of practices for the State.

Ginger

• Neemcake @ 1 t/ha (100 g/m²) at planting and carbofuran @ 1 kg ai/ha at 45 days after planting are found effective for the control of nematodes associated with ginger.
