Cucurbits
In snakegourd infestation of fruitfly (Dacus cucurbita) can be effectively controlled by the use of banana fruit traps coupled with the removal and destruction of infested fruits. It was more efficient than two spraying with insecticides. The trap was prepared by applying carbofuran granules at the cut ends of ripe banana fruits (Variety Palayankodan).
Waiting period of pesticides suggested for snakeguar : Carbaryl - 5 days, Fenthion - 3 days, Quinalphos - 6 days, Malathion - 1 day, Dimethoate - 3 days, Monocrotophos - 5 days

Application of 75:20:25 kg NPK/ ha is optimum for getting maximum yield of fruits in brinjal in the reclaimed alluvial soils of Kutatanad. However, the economic optimum dose was found to be 60:20:25 kg of NPK per hectare.
